New animation ideas

This is how my animation starts. The silver plane (my avatar) flies out of the Earth and goes into space and then it dodged a few asteroids and then it confronts another plane that flies out of Mars and then they both fight each other. Eventually the enemy fighter catches fire, spins out of control and dives down towards Mars and the silver plane chases after it.

New showcase ideas

Here are my new ideas for my showcase. The picture of my logo will be on the top-right corner of my showcase's front-page and my shuttle picture will be on the top-left corner of the front-page. I also took a new picture for my showcase front page. In this picture, the computer screen has a white glow coming out of it. I was going to rid of this picture and take another picture for my showcase but then I decided to keep it because the white glow that's coming coming from the computer looks like space and both the animation and the interactive element that are on the computer screen both have space in them and I also like the glow as well. Also when the user clicks on the computer screen, the user will see the two options that I've said before but this time the options will be displayed in a space background to make it look more interesting and the background also matches the elements in my showcase.

Here are my news for the shuttle picture that's part of my showcase. When you click on the picture of the shuttle in the showcase, fire comes out of the jet engine and the shuttle flies up and out of the picture in the top-right direction. The shuttle will also make a shuttle sound as it flies out of the picture.

New logo ideas

Here are the new ideas for my logo. When you click on the logo in the showcase it flies up and out of the screen, extending the trail behind and the plane/shuttle in the logo will either make a plane sound or a shuttle sound or a rocket sound. The logo will also be a picture on the top-right part of the showcase so it will be seperate from my avatar and animation and I think that's a good thing because it's good to have the elements from the showcase seperate from one another instead of them all being banged up together in one place.

Here's some research that I did on identities.

The concept of self-identity is people’s understanding of themselves. A person’s self-identity is made up of personality traits, knowledge of their own skills and abilities, their hobbies and what they do in their own spare time and an awareness of their own physical traits. A person’s self-identity is not just about themselves in the present. It’s also about themselves in the past and who they might become in the future. People’s future selves or possible selves represent their own ideas of what they might become, what they would like to become and what they are afraid of becoming, for example, people’s hopes, fears, standards, goals, and threats.

My showcase ideas

The front page of my showcase will have a computer and a picture of a shuttle above it. The picture of the shuttle is one of the elements in my showcase. When the user clicks on the shuttle picture the fire comes out of the jet engine. In my showcase the logo will be on my avatar and my avatar will be in the animation. My showcase will also feature the interactive element. The user will be able find the animation and the interactive element by clicking on the computer. Once the user has clicked on the computer their will be two options that are displayed. One option says ‘space animation’ and the other says ‘space interaction’. The user has to click on one of these options to go to either the animation or the interactive element. All these elements show my identity as someone that likes travelling, overcoming obstacles and fighting for freedom. These elements also show that colours such as blue, white and silver are my favourite colours because those colours appear in every or almost every element in my showcase. These elements also show that I like the colours green, red and black but not as much as the other three because these colours are not as common.

My animation starts of as a plane (my avatar) in space.
It then dives under an asteroid and then it meets it’s opposition in front of the Earth. This is only my draft, the final animation will be more complex with fighting, special effects, sounds and a longer story line.

Figure 3: This is a sketch of my interactive element that's part of my showcase. This is how it works. The user controls the light grey plane at the bottom of the screen and you have to keep on shoot at the computer controlled plane at the top of the screen. Every time you hit the black plane it explodes and you gain a point as seen in the top-left part of the picture but after the enemy plane explodes it just keeps on coming back again and it's never stops and another things is that if you get shot at by the enemy fighter it's game over and you go to the high score screen.

Here are some more pictures that I looked at in my logo research.

I got my colour ideas for my logo from these logos and I chose to look at these logos because these logos look like planes and I wanted my logo to look like a plane so I partly based the shape of my logo on these plane logos. I also like the logo of the plane in the circle with the white trail coming out of it so I made my logo as a plane in a circle with a white trail coming out of it as well.

I changed the design of my first logo to my last one because the first one looks more like a shuttle than an actual plane and I want my logo to look like a plane because my logo is a part of my avatar and my avatar is a plane. The other reasons why I changed my logo are because the body of the plane logo is too wide in the first design and the wings are too small so I made the body thinner and the wings bigger. Another reason why I changed the design is that the wings in the first design are more towards the back of the body so I put the wings in the centre of the body so the logo looks more like a plane as seen in the second design.

I did research on logos of some companies to get ideas so I could design my own logo for my showcase. Here are the logos that I looked at.

I liked the blue and white colours in the Airbus logo so I chose those colours for my logo. I also liked the white letters on the blue background in the Maserati logos so I chose to design my logo that way. I liked the way that the Nike logo looked because it looks fiery and speedy and I wanted by logo to look fiery and speedy but I scrapped those ideas because I thought my logo would look better without those ideas.

Here are my average results from the user experience questionnaire that's based on my interactive showcase. The reselts are based from 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest).

Here's also my summary that's based on other peoples comments from the questionnaire.

Most people liked looking at the photos and pictures in my showcase and a few people liked the animation. One feature that people didn't like was the lack navigation buttons such as the back or button. A few people didn't understand what the unclickable L picture was. Most people found the site interesting because of the animation and the pictures but a few people found it less interesting because of navigation problems.

I think the pictures and my logo in my showcase are really good. They give other people a good idea about who I am. My most favourite feature was the animation but I really need to improve the navigation system.

Apple.com Identity

The design of apple.com is very user friendly. The tabs are at the top. Pictures with descriptions below the tabs and on the right hand side of the page. There are drop-down lists on the left which displays text and images when you drag the cursor over it. The content is about apple products such as ipods and iTunes. The design shows that the identity is creative, visual, productive, user friendly and stands out from the crowd. The philosophy of the company's brand is to sell creative products that you can do anything you want with.

IDEO.com Identity

The design of ideo.com is very organised and very easy to use. The website has got tabs at the top of the taps with more specific image links below the tabs to take you to the exact page you want to look at. It also has a large amount of text below the image links on the left and has a large picture below the images on the right. The colours of this site are simply black, white and gray. Another good thing about this site is when you click on a tab it turns orange to show which page you're on. The identity of the company is organised, planned out, simple and business like. The philosophy of the brand is about futuristic identity business products, for example, a device called the palm V.

Palm V is a thin, efficient device with a rechargable battery and has side rails for attaching other objects to it. Palm V was designed to look different from other devices that looked like it.

The glowing afternoon light adds some colour to the dark hallway. The light from the burglar alarm can be seen in the top-left corner of the door sometimes during the film, which makes the film more interesting. Since the film is in the dark, you can only see the silhouette of the burglar, which makes the film look more interesting. Another good effect is when the robber shines the torch straight at the camera, which shows a great amount of light shining out of the torch that brightens up the dark room. The film also has good sound effects when the burglar starts rustling through the objects in the and then drops an object by accident.

The only thing that is wrong with this film is that the camera rocks at the end. The only thing I would improve about this film is that last mistake I made at the end by turning of the record button and by making sure the camera doesn’t rock by holding the camera still.

One-Shot film planning

At first I was going to film the birds in my garden the deer in the park but I decided not to because both of them had no storyline, they were too boring and I also couldn’t predict what the birds or the deer were going to do. Then I decided to make a film where there was action going on in it. One idea was I was outside filming and a politician or a bouncer shouts “Oi!” and comes towards the camera and knocks it over. Then I came up with the idea that someone breaks into my house and there’s a fight scene between me and the intruder in the house but the film would look messy so I decided to film someone breaking into the house in the front door, that was my last idea. There also this idea that I wanted in the film where the person that shouts "Oi You!" to chase after the robber but that was also no-good because you couldn't see the burglar escaping from the house.

I filmed the scene three times; the first filming was in the afternoon with the camera in a light room. The second filming was also in the afternoon but this time the camera was in a dark room. The last filming was in the evening and camera was in a dark room again. The second film looked the best so I chose that film because the first film was too bright and the last film was too dark, the second film was in the dark but with a glowing light from the door-window.
